I just paid for and downloaded event espresso business edition, so I have the latest version. When I installed the plug-ins on my site and tried to access settings I got the message “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page. I deactivated the permissions plug-in, but that didn’t do anything. Ideas?

Have you viewed the documentation for that addon? You may need to reactivate roles and permissions addon and update the permissions settings.
