Hi I would like to use the plugin for sporting events but am unsure on the best approach to achieve this (ie using the custom post type or the event itself). I need it to do the following … 1) filter events using venue and category drop downs 2) display a table of results on the event page (ie entered via a rich text field) 3) listing only events with results Many thanks in advance | |

Hi Jonathan Thanks for your reply, here is come clarification… 1) I would like a search widget with dropdowns for category and also venue as a means of filtering events 2) I need the option of adding custom fields but as WYSIWIG so I can enter results for sporting events in table format (this is normally achieved with plugins such as more fields or advanced custom fields). 3) I want to show events by category but only those with the results meta field filled in (normally achieved by adding the meta_query parameter to WP_Query) If the events are stored as posts then I should be able to achieve the above using custom queries Hope this makes sense | |
These are two different things. A search widget, by default, is not the same thing as a dropdown menu. In the past people have built dropdown menus to display a list of events by category. We also have a shortcode that can be used to search your active events and will autocomplete if the query is found in an event. But I don’t see how it would be possible to combine both things. Do you have an example site that does this that you can link to?
Adding custom fields to an event? Yes, using Event Meta.
Probably possible, but you’d need to edit the template files to filter by the event meta value.
They aren’t. You can use the Custom Post Types feature and create an Espresso Event post with each event you create, and then create some custom templates for the post type. In that case all the event data is passed over as post_meta, in which case you could do some of what you’re looking for, but it’s important to remember that you can’t add events from the post type — you still need to use the Event Espresso menu to create the event and then the event is converted into a post (either a blog post or an espresso_event post if you have custom post types turned on).
