    Hi folks,

My event is a weekend-long conference, each day has multiple events (classes) within it. I know I can specify the calendar to show a single day view, but is there a way for me to specify which date the calendar shows? That is, I want the initial calendar view to be the basicDay view of Saturday, March 30, 2013. If the user wanted then could then navigate away from the date or change to a week or month view as per normal. but I want to set up the initial view.

    Possible?

    Hi,

Sorry, but there is no way to set a specific date as the current view without actually editing the calendars code to do so.

      Thanks for the quick reply.

This is a feature which would be EXTREMELY useful and would make Event Espresso the software to use for creating events that contain multiple components — things like conferences (that contain classes), film festivals (different movies), scifi conventions, etc.

      I think a shortcode like

      [ESPRESSO_CALENDAR cal_view=”agendaDAY” start_date=”20130329″]

would be really useful. After all, if I’m crating a site for a specific event (like a festival… which I am), I want visitors to the site to see my event displayed on the calendar initially.

      1) I’d be interested in sponsoring this development, if it could be done quickly.

      2) As long as I’ve got your attention, can you explain the difference between “basicDAY” and “agendaDAY”. It’s not described at all in the documentation.

      Thanks!

      Hi,

We are using a third party calendar script within the plugin and it has limitations, but it is the best we have used so far. We are contemplating how best to expand on it and/or change it, but it will be after 3.2 is launched before we can seriously focus on it.

I do agree with you though, being able to specify an initial date would be useful.

      1) Regarding sponsored development you can send details in here for the sales/dev team to look at, http://staging.eventespresso.com/contact/customization-request-form/. Currently our timescale may not be ideal for you (please send in the form to clarify timescale I dont have that info currently).

      2) The difference is in the looks. Basic day is just a plain view and agendaDay has times of the day on it, like you would find in a day planner.

        Hi Dean,

One of my local coders found and fixed the issue. If you guys would like our code, let me know. I’m sure we can work something out.

          What issue?

A way for me to specify which date the calendar initially shows.

That is, I want the initial calendar view to be the day view of (for example) Saturday, March 30, 2013 not matter what the current date is.

If the user wanted he could then navigate away from the date or change to a week or month view as per normal. but I want to set up the initial date as well as style (day, week, month) seen.

We figured out what code to change to do it, so know we have a shortcode that looks like

            [ESPRESSO_CALENDAR event_category_id=”conf” cal_view=”agendaDay” day=”30″ month=”3″ year=”2013″]

That’s nice. Does it use the FullCalendar gotoDate method?

If you’d like to ask one of the devs to post the solution up on github other users who may be looking to do something similar will appreciate it.

Not a clue. I’m not the developer.

Sadly, I don’t think we’re willing to post the solution for free. I had to pay the developer to create it for us. It took about 5 hours, but money is still money.
