I am setting up some events that begin in June, and I’d like to use the Calendar shortcode to list those events. It seems to be working but the Calendar shows up on the page starting with today’s month view, instead of showing the month when the events begin.
Is there a way to use the category_id as I’m doing, but also set the initial calendar display to a specific future date?

I just noticed that the version of the Calendar plug-in that I have installed is 2.0.4, and it’s installed at plugins/espresso-calendar-1/.
I see the current version is 2.2.0p, but WordPress is not prompting me to update.
Should I disable the current plugin and install the new one from scratch?

It is always worth keeping up to date with the plugins as they provide new features, bug fixes etc.

I understand that. I guess my question is why has the Calendar plugin not updated, when everything else has? It’s not prompting me to update, and I am unclear how I should proceed since the update mechanics isn’t working for that plugin.
So, again, my question is, should I remove the Calendar plugin entirely, then download and install the most up to date one? Is that the procedure you’d recommend?

Hi,
Sorry if I misunderstood you, and yes if for some reason the automatic updates are not working, you can remove the existing calendar and manually install the latest version.
After doing so, it is worthwhile to double check the Calendar Settings and save them.

I just tried to install the latest Calendar version, and WordPress gave a cryptic error “Missing a temporary folder.”
Do you know what this means, or how I can fix it?

Hi Ross,
The reason it’s not prompting you to update is the updater is looking for espresso-calendar, but your calendar is installed in espresso-calendar-1. You can install the calendar add-on manually by deactivating the version you have now, then download the calendar zip file from your account page and upload/install from the WP plugin manager page.
If you continue to see the Missing Temporary folder error, one of these threads from the wp.org support forums may help.

OK, so now I’ve got the correct 2.2.0p version installed. Thank you.
To go back to my original question, I’d like to set the view date of the calendar as described in the other thread noted above. I have checked out the code at the link, and that is for Calendar version 2.1. Can I just add the line 255, plus the line to the bottom of espresso-calendar.js file?
If I do this, will future updates break?

Hi,
Yes that should be fine, 2.1 and 2.2 are quite similar.
Yes it will be over written (thus removed) on updates.
I have added a ticket already requesting a feature be added to allow an easier way to do this as it is a popular request.
