Serious Calendar/Recurring Events Issue

    Help! I have no idea at all what is going on!

    Everything was going along perfectly well through August, our client’s first month of public function. She has single date events, recurring events (which we had to finagle with to get the calendar to look right, but it was fine), etc.

    Now, all of a sudden, no events are showing in the calendar for September or beyond. You can clearly see all of the events under August still, but no others. Additionally, Recurring events that run through October are only showing their very next class period, the next week of September.

    I have attempted to create test events to see if there was some sort of update that broke events created previously, but this did not fix the issue. It’s going to be a big deal in a week when her recurring events start dropping off of the list.

    The content is simply called in the pages with shortcodes.

      Hi Monroe,

      Has the site been moved recently? Say from development to production for example? The links within the Calendar link to an IP address and not the site itself.

      Firstly I would advise you to clear the servers cache files and disable gzip compression from within WP Super Cache.

      For the events recurring events that have not become open, check the Registration Start date for the recurring series. It sounds like its set for roughly a week before the start date for each event?

        Tony,

        Thank you for your prompt reply. The site was indeed just moved from development to live. The actual host location didn’t move, but it’s under the new domain name now. I have reset the WP Super Cache, but to no avail. It’s odd that the previous month’s events would still be there, though.

        As for the recurring events, the registration dates are open for all events during the cycle. I have uploaded a screen cap of the back end to the site to illustrate the problem. LINK.

        You can see that despite the registration date stretching from 09/02 – 10/22, and all events open for registration during that period, only the one that would happen 9/17 is showing up.

          Hi there,

          So with the issue with the calendar links: The links get stored for each event as meta data and they are based on the URL of the website at the time they were created. You can try updating these events so they can be updated to use the new site URL.

          With the issue in the Recurring events editor: The “Immediate Response Window” text will normally be hidden from the page using by JavaScript, so I’m thinking there’s a plugin or a theme function that’s throwing a JavaScript error. A quick way to rule out whether it’s the theme is to install the theme test drive plugin and switch the admin to use the default WordPress theme and try editing the recurring event series. If the theme checks out we can advise ruling out a plugin conflict by temporarily deactivating other plugins.

            Thanks for your help! I’ve tracked the calendar issue down to a theme issue by using Theme test drive. I’m not sure what to do about this since swapping out the theme at this point would be a HUGE deal, and it was working fine, so the customer won’t understand that. I’ve already got the calendar wrapped in raw tags, so it should be ignoring the theme.

            The recurring event issue appears to be an error with the automatic recurrence. I tried, for the sake of argument, setting the event to registration on a formula schedule, and that works fine. Since each recurring event redirects to the registration for the complete class, it doesn’t matter.

            However, the calendar issue most assuredly will come up, since that’s where the recurring events appear, so if you have any recommendations for that, it’d be great.

              Hi there,

              It’s important to note that wrapping the calendar shortcode in raw tags does one thing only: it can make the shortcode not get parsed through the theme’s custom wpautop filters. That’s all that it will do.

              I can advise looking through the theme’s options to see if there are any options that can be set that will alter links (like SEO options) or check with the theme developer to see if there are functions in the WP theme that would alter the links in the calendar.

              With the Recurring events not calculating, it’s not something I’ve been able to reproduce on my end. The automatic date recurrence feature outputs the dates as expected on my test install when I plugin in the same options:
