Is there a way to turn off the preview of next month at the bottom of the current month?

Not entirely, but if you change the weekMode setting in espresso-calendar.php to ‘fluid’, it should make some of the months not display the extra row:

//Determines the number of weeks displayed in a month view. Also determines each week's height.
