I’ve had this issue since I started using Event Espresso.
On my Event List page; If I post an artist name that has an apostrophe (and perhaps a few other characters) in it a “” backslash is entered prior to the apostrophe.
I’ve done some reading on this and apparently it is down to Magic Quote GPC being turned on, on the server.
I’ve gone ahead an turned off Magic Quotes and it has sadly made no difference. I’ve tried resaving the events and such.
Could someone perhaps suggest what I need to do to fix this?
Can you try updating to the latest version of Event Espresso? We’ve added some input sanitization that may help.
Also, you might try creating a new event and check to see if it still happens, as the older entries will be in the database the way they were originally saved. If the new event looks good, you can go back to the older events then delete and re-type the affected single quotes.
Some of the events have 100 or so purchases – I’d be afraid to delete them and recreate. I did edit the titles a bit, saved, changed them back etc. to no avail.
The current version I am using is 3.1.27.P. I’m weary of upgrading incase something breaks but I’m willing to give it a go if necessary (I appreciate I’d need to at some point). Is the upgrade a painless experience?
The upgrade process is painless yes, its a one click affair. However we do strongly advise you to back up your database before updating (which is standard practice for any updates).
Your events wont be deleted as they are stored in the database though you may need to tweak a few settings on update, and if you have any modified files in the uploads/espresso directory it is best to rename that directory in the short term to allow the default templates to work without errors.
If you are concerned about the update process, then it is also recommended to test updates out on a local or live development server before committing to updating the live server.
