Did you use the pre-made “Phone” system question, or create your own new question? All of the ten pre-made questions are special in that they correspond to specific database fields. So the email shortcode for phone number will pull from that database field, and will not find the answer to a new “Phone” question.

Sorry, I just looked at the code for the [phone] email shortcode, and it will return the event venue’s phone, not the attendees. In order to display the answer to the question “Phone Number” you would use the shortcode [answer_Phone Number] in the email.
