I can’t figure out where this problem lies if I’m honest!
On the Event Overview/Attendee Reports, my client has a number of people who have registered, but the payment status shows as ‘Pending’, which makes sense, as there are no payments from them in Paypal. This causes a problem for my client because unless they have manually logged in and noticed these people haven’t made payments, the customers then turn up on the day thinking they have paid!
Thing is, whenever I try to do a test payment, it all goes through fine, apart from when I am returned to the Thank You page from Paypal, the payment status shows as ‘Pending’ (but payment eventually goes through and I do get a confirmation email etc).
I do have the default payment status set to ‘Pending’, because here’s what happens when I change it to ‘Incomplete’:
> Directed to Paypal, make the payment;
> Autoreturned to Thank You page, where it says ‘Payment Incomplete’;
> Automatically sent BACK to Paypal, make the payment again;
> Returned to thank You page;
> Realise from my Paypal account that I have paid twice!!
I’m aware that my payment process UX at the moment is rather ‘clunky’ but if someone could have a look at it that would be great!
You can make the redirect back to PayPal on the return not happen by either disabling the “Show payment options for “Pending Payments” on the Payment Overview page?” option in Event Espresso>General Settings -or- by disabling the “Bypass Payment Overview Page” option in the Event Espresso>Payment settings>PayPal Settings box.
I’m afraid that the Instant Payment Notification (as PayPal calls it) is not really instant because it takes longer to make it back to the website than it does for the user to return to the website.
