I am trying to create a wait listed event follow your step by step instructions. However the overflow event button is missing from the event options on the right hand side.

Hi Teresa,

The overflow button will not display until there is at least one event set to have a “Waitlist” status which is covered in step #2 of the guide:

I’d like to send you the copy of my screen shot – there is no option to add this advanced event option. the event has the status of waitlist

Hi Teresa,

The event that has the status of waitlist cannot be set to be its own waitlist event. So what that means is there a main event and a waitlist event. The main event will still be set to Public, but have the option to select an overflow event when there is another event set to be a waitlist event.

Im sorry to sound so dense but the MAIN event won’t let me have the Advanced event options unless I change the Status to WAItLIST. I do find your training instructions and print outs to be confusing. I’ve printed it out but my original event – once changed to Waitlist – does not have the advanced option – overflow event button

Hi Teresa,

The Main event should not be changed to have the waitlist status.

Instead, the secondary event (which is the event that will take the overflow signups as soon as the main event is oversold) should be set to have a waitlist status.

Here’s a two-minute video of a screen recording that illustrates the difference between the main event and the overflow event.

I got your video, but i don’t think you understand me – my MAIN event that is full – there is no field or button that says overflow event or a drop down to choose the other event!

Can you check the status set for the overflow event? What is its status? Can you post a link to the overflow event?

Hi Teresa,

Since I’m not logged into the WP admin, I am not able to check the status of these events for you.

Can you check the event status for the “Leveraging Linkedin Waiting List” event?

Is it Public, Waitlist, or Ongoing?

I can give you my P/words if need be.

Status is waitlist, I have also had it at public but no button showing up.

Is it possible to get your login details in order to look into this?

If so, please send them via http://staging.eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

NOTE: login details need to be Admin level.

Hi,

OK, so I logged in to see what was happening. You had the waitlist event (id 37) Event Status set to draft. I change it to Waitlist.

After doing that and opening up the main event (id 18) this correctly appeared http://d.pr/i/752V.

I changed this to the following http://d.pr/i/RCkp and it now has a waitlist assigned to it.

So, to re-iterate:

Create a Main event
Create a waitlist event
Set the waitlist events Event status to Waitlist and publish/update
Go back to the Main event
Edit the Assign a Waitlist Event? to Yes
Edit the Overflow Event: to show the waitlist event you want to use
Update the Main event.

Thats it! Hope it makes a bit more sense now.
