multiple volume discounts questions

Two related questions:
A. I’ve been going through the forums and documentation on the volume discounts trying to figure out whether it’s possible to create multiple bundles, and how. The only way I can figure out how to do it is to use the link example provided, but for different event IDs. For example,

  1. [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=”6-7-8″ direct_to_cart=1
    moving_to_cart=”Redirecting to cart…”]
  2. [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=”11-12-13″ direct_to_cart=1
    moving_to_cart=”Redirecting to cart…”]
  3. [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=”1-5-7-9″ direct_to_cart=1
    moving_to_cart=”Redirecting to cart…”]

BUT, please confirm – it’s only possible to create a single discount amount? So, I can’t offer x% on the first one, y% on the second, and z% on the third, right?

B. Next question: if I want to offer a volume discount on different categories, but only on a combination of events from the same category, I need to enable discounts for each of those categories in the settings, but bundle them as I wish in the shortcode, right? How can I prevent the discount from happening if single events that just happen to be in the approved categories are placed in the cart, when I really only want three of the same category to be eligible for the special price?

Thank you for your help-
Robin

Hi Robin,

The Volume Discounts plugin is limited to one discount for one set of circumstances (e.g. 10% off for 2 events or more) for the moment.

I like the way you have bundled them together thats a good use of the shortcode.

Regarding your second question it relates to the first, you cant stop it. If the user adds 3 events to the cart and they come from the correct (but different) categories and they meet the attendee or value criteria, the discount will be given.7

The only way around it would be to custom code something to check the categories of the events work out if they match and then block/allow the discount.

Thank you, Dean!

So, what do you think of this idea as a volume discount improvement? Create discounts in the same way as categories, and assign a discount to an event just like a category? That would allow the creation of multiple types of discounts (x% for this one and y% for that one) if someone wanted to do that, and total control over which is assigned to what. That might actually kill two birds with one stone, because it would also allow the creation of a unique bundle of events based upon a specific discount entity. Of course, I haven’t looked under the skin, so maybe it’s not a workable idea, but it seems logical to me.

Hey Robin,

That sounds like a good idea to me. I know that the Volume Discount add on has the potential for some feature upgrades.

It isnt something that will happen soon though as we have shifted focus onto larger projects currently. But I will stick this down on the feature request list for when we return to it.

Thanks for adding it to the list, Dean! Nuts that it isn’t near the top! :-)
