The featured image is part of the event editor, on the right hand side. This is just like a normal WordPress post.
Once added, it is up to the theme to display the featured image. Generally so long as the theme displays normal post featured images, it will display the custom post type one as well.
I see it when I create a post, featured video, featured image (ext), featured image. But when I am creating a EE4 event, they are not to be found. I am using the latest EE4
From your feedback, you are seeing this option in the posts editor. When you add an image there and publish, does it then appear on the blog post?
If it does, then it should also appear for Event Espresso events.
