Event Espresso Version 3.1.32.2.P, Calendar  Version 2.0.6.B.2

My company has many events which are private and we do not want them to appear with other events on our calendar. I’ve been reading through the support threads about setting up an event that does not show up on the calendar.  Can you confirm the following conclusions and suggest a course of action?

There is no “private” event setting so all events must be listed as public for them to appear on calendar.
There is no way to “hide” an event from the Calendar.
There is no ability to specify /exclude categories in the calendar short code other than to……

Place all events into a single category (ex: “Public Events”)  and use that category for the calendar short code.
Create another category for  (ex:private events) and place all events we do not wish to display into this category

However, we have over 100 events which are placed into 12 different categories. If we wanted to place all these events into a single category (Public Events), is there a way to do so? Would love to avoid going into every event and changing the category.

    Hi,

Yes pretty much what you said is accurate, the only way to do it is to set some events to one category and only show that category on the calendar.

It is on our feature request list, so I will certainly add your +1 to the vote.

Regarding updating the 100 events, other than creating an SQL script the options are to open each event and edit it, or edit them via the database manually. Neither option is particularly fast.

OK…I will create a category called public. Is there any way to keep displaying the colors I have assigned each category?  If I categorize an event as both “adventures” and “public”, which category color does the event default to?

        Hi David,

I can suggest another way to hide the private events that does not involve using categories. You can set the event status to waitlist and it will not display in the calendar.

If I set the event’s status to “waitlist” will attendees still be able to register / pay for an event?

You can set the events to allow or disallow registration/payment, just like any other event. The registration open/close date settings control this.
