My client is trying to implement gift card functionality for their Social Art Studio – https://kennett-design.com

I recommended to them to use the Social Coupon / Groupon addon but they are struggling with it as it does not seem to offer much functionality. They sell seats for art classes and use Event Espresso to manage those events (see calendar here: https://kennett-design.com/calendar/). Each registration has the option to register additional attendees (but that effects the total price).

It it not possible to limit the value of the gift certificate to a singe attendee? So if they were registering for 2 people but have a gift card for 1 they would only be charged for 1 seat? It looks like the gift card coupon is being applied to both currently instead of just the one.

If this is the case what would you recommend in order to implement this functionality? Does it mean that the events have to be limited to a single registration only?

Hello,

The social/groupon codes, like the promotional codes affect the entire basket. As such to use them as a gift certificate, you would indeed need to not allow group registrations.

Thanks Dean for the quick response!

So social/groupon codes are not really compatible with group registrations where the price of the event changes based on the number of registrations. Do you know if this is something that will be dealt with in a future upgrade? Seems like something that is basic / core feature to social coupons to work correctly.

Hi Greg.

Have you checked out the Volume Discount add on? It’s in Beta still but it might do what you need it to. You can offer a discount based on registrant numbers, so if number of tickets is over 2 for example you can kick in a discount. It still discounts the entire basket though.

I will add your thoughts about the discount/promo system to our feature request list. It is good to get feedback on these things.

Thanks for the suggestion Dean. The problem with Volume Discount is that it really isn’t a discount (which could be used over again). It is truly a single-use gift certificate which needs to expire after it is used. It sounds like something that combines the best of the current promo / discount with the social / groupon codes and volume discounts into one sweet little add-on package!

Thanks for considering it a feature request!

Hi Greg,

I thought I would throw the idea out just in case, I wasn’t hopeful it would resolve the issue.

I do agree with you, I personally would love to see the 2 addons and the Promo system combined into as you put it “one sweet little add-on package!”

I know though that if that does happen it wont be for some time, we need to get 3.2 out and update everything to work etc etc.
