We’re looking for a event management plugin for a gaming convention that can:

    a) allow “gamemasters” (people who are putting on games) to register games for the convention choosing primary and secondary times for the event.  As a bonus it would be good if the gamemaster could register the game at multiple times if they plan on running it more than once.  Registration information would include description, start time, number of players, etc.

    b) allow admin review and approval of the gamemaster registrations

    c) once the gamemaster registrations are approved, display them in an event schedule

    d) allow attendees to register (and pay) for the event BUT also select one game per day that they would like to pre-register for

    e) allow creation of print out, by game, of who pre-registered for the game

    f) allow for capture of on-site (i.e., day of convention) registrations to same database to allow for single set of data to manage.

    Can Espresso handle this?

    Hi John,

In short, Event Espresso can definitely cover some areas, but others would require some custom coding or out of the box thinking to deal with.

    a) allow “gamemasters” (people who are putting on games) to register games for the convention choosing primary and secondary times for the event. As a bonus it would be good if the gamemaster could register the game at multiple times if they plan on running it more than once. Registration information would include description, start time, number of players, etc.

Generally the time is a bit of an issue here, when someone registers they will select a single time slot. So they would either need to register multiple times (not ideal) or you get a little creative with the custom questions for the registrant, in which case there will be a little bit more admin as you check their answers manually.

You have a lot of control with custom questions so via text field, text area, dropdown, check/tick boxes and radio buttons, so most custom questions can be easily covered.

    b) allow admin review and approval of the gamemaster registrations

Yes you can set each event to make all registrants for that event go through a pre-approval process.

    c) once the gamemaster registrations are approved, display them in an event schedule

Yes, I would say it’s do-able but you would need to custom develop something to get the appropriate data and show it in a schedule manner, there isnt anything out of the box that would fit it.

    d) allow attendees to register (and pay) for the event BUT also select one game per day that they would like to pre-register for

Well, there isnt anything automated which would register them to a secondary event, but again you could use questions to get that data so long as the games are pre known.

    e) allow creation of print out, by game, of who pre-registered for the game

Not unless they actually registered. You could filter the export spreadsheet by question answer and print that off, or create a custom query. There are shortcodes available to quickly list attendees but nothing that can filter by question. However there is a filter for paid vs non paid, which could potentially be used.

    f) allow for capture of on-site (i.e., day of convention) registrations to same database to allow for single set of data to manage.

Spreadsheet export is probably the best option here, you can export all attendees/attendee by event/events.
