Hello,
I have set up my event and have it launched on our site. When I go in to do a test registration I choice my ticket, enter in the registration info. Then when I click on proceed to payment options I get “This registration step could not be completed. Please refresh the page and try again.” I have refreshed and tried about 5 times. How can I fix this problem?

Hello, could you please link to an event so I can take a look? Any event will work as I’ll be looking for errors on the page.

Hi Emily,

Could you please clear your cache and setup no-cache/exclusion rules for your caching plugin?

These are the critical pages for Event Espresso. You can find them in WP-admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Critical pages.

On a default install of Event Espresso, the following slugs would be needed for the no-cache rules:

/events/
/registration-checkout/
/transactions/
/thank-you/
/registration-cancelled/

How do I clear the cache?

Also, where would I put those slugs? I am using WP Total Cache and I am not sure how to do that.

This varies from caching plugin to caching plugin but there should no a cache option within the settings pages for W3 total cache under the page cache settings:

I added those pages to the no cache list and re tested the registration and still got the same message.

The old cache still be in place. Did you clear the cache after making those changes?

Try deactivating W3 total cache and reactivating it through WP plugins.

Hi Emily,

When you alter the cache settings you need to ‘purge’ (delete) the cache to rebuild it with your new rules.

If you go to Performance -> Dashboard. You should then see an ‘Empty All Caches’ button. Press that.

I deactivated total cache and tested it and it didn’t work and then I did the empty all caches and tested it and that also didn’t work.

Hi Emily, your cache may have gone bad. When this happens the site will be stuck on the old cache and won’t clear.

I can clear it by manually removing the cache_ files in this location:

wp-content/

Could you share a temporary WordPress admin login along with a temporary FTP or SFTP login through this link:
