Is there a simplified version of Event plugin available? We have a group of 20-30 people (registered users) who need to be able to create their own events, however the complexity and number of choices for the current module has is simply overwhelming for them. As a workaround, we created a simple form for them to request a new event: http://d37toastmasters.org/request-new-event/ but ideally would want them to manage adding / updating their own events.
There is an Event Espresso Lite, the free version, but I don’t think thats what you are after.
The only way I can think of simplifying the plugin is to use Roles and Permissions to reduce the number of pages a logged in user has access to, and then perhaps a custom plugin that de-registers some of the unnecessary (to you) meta boxes, or perhaps just some CSS to hide them.
Is there a way to automate the event creation? I would like to pass the basic event information from the form displayed on the website and create a new event automatically. I could define the rest of fields behind the scenes so the end user does not have to deal with all the complexity. Would this be possible?
For the most part yes, we have a Pre Release add on plugin called Front End Manager http://staging.eventespresso.com/wiki/front-end-event-manager/ that allows you to create events from the front end. It doesnt allow total control though, just the basics. You could use that or perhaps fork it and build upon it for your needs.
