Something has changed as it has worked fine in the past, and the only changes have been recent plugin upgrades. Rather than trying to deflect folks into using additional email services, can somebody try to discover what has broken in the code so that I can get the registration service working again.

    Appreciate it.

I have read all the suggestions, only thing I have not done is to re-register the License key.

The main point of using the additional services we recommend is to determine whether the email that was not received ever left the server. Do you have some form of email logging in place?

Not easy for me to check, but I’m having somebody check to see if there are any problems with emails leaving the server. Do you know typically where to look?

Its a real pain, that everything was working fine, then all notifications stop.

        Hi there,

There is a plugin that you can install on your WP installation that will log the email attempts:

          Hi Josh,
Thanks! I installed the log, and the log shows emails leaving wordpress. Not sure where to look beyond.
I tried adding another plugin wp smtp and set this up with both our own server and with Gmail, and once a test email is sent, we get a message on the same page stating “Some errors occurred!. So unable to get smtp to work either. I really have no working experience with wp smtp, so not sure where next to look.

When I check gmail is suggests using port 465 and TLS, the wp smtp suggests port 587.
          Tried both ports.
Did get a message from gmail saying app trying to access my gmail account and was blocked. Tried again and no joy.

The author of the WP SMTP plugin posted recommendations on how to set up mail to go through a gmail account here:

Hi Josh, Was able to get the SMTP pluging working with gmail, so its working, but not as well as it was before. There still appears to be a problem with php sendmail.
              Thanks for your help.

It’s typically difficult to pin down problems with email because there are so many layers to it. EE hands the email sending off to WP. WP by default then hands it off to php, which then hands it off to whatever mail handler is set up on the server (sendmail, for example), which then sends it to the server specified in the dns record, and down the chain it goes. The only part that EE has any control over is that first link in the chain, which is why we recommend some kind of email logging, using Mandrill, etc.

Yep, seems to be a complicated problem. I’m using gmail at the moment with smtp plugin, not perfect but seems to be working. I’ll take a look at Mandrill and see how easy it is to setup. Thanks
