Hi,

I have a client who registered for one of our events. He wanted to use a gift certificate that someone had purchased for him to pay for the class. The event is $225 plus 5% tax for a total of $236.25

I had him choose to pay for it by cheque and told him after he was registerred, I’d see the registration and then apply his $150 gift certificate and send him a payment reminder so that he could pay the remainder.

So, after I see his registration come through I apply a payment of $150.00. When I look at the Transaction Status page for this transaction, at the top of the screen it shows an outstanding amount owing of $86.25 and I can see the $150.00 partial payment that I applied.

However, when he clicks on the link in the Payment Reminder email I had the system send him, the Registration Checkout page is showing the amount due is still $236.25.

What gives? How can I make this work correctly?

Hi Paul,

It turns out that Event Espresso 4 beta doesn’t fully support partial payments yet because what happens is the Reg. Checkout page only deals with the full amount of the ticket price and doesn’t factor in partial payments. This is something that we’ll be building into Event Espresso 4 before it graduates from beta.

In the meantime there are a few options on how to handle a partial payment. One way is to ask them to pay from the invoice option (this is only applicable if you’re using the invoice payment option) or if they want to pay online you can send them a PayPal invoice and they can pay from there.

Couldn’t it just check the amount due on the transaction and bill for that amount?

Sorry if I’m missing something obvious.

Paul

Hi Paul,

It could, and it will do something like that once the dev team re-works the models.
