I’m considering the purchase of the Business version of Event Espresso, and wanted to know if the following is supported using the Business license:

    1. The event will have 4 categories of tickets, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Student. We will have Early Bird pricing, which will offer a $25 discount to Gold / Silver / Bronze tickets, but no discount to students, since they are already discounted. Will EE allow me to specify the exact pricing before / after the Early Bird deadline for each ticket? (not just a percentage).

    2. In the above example, I have an extra optional item that is only available to purchasers of a Silver ticket. Is there a way to only allow the optional item to be purchased if the buyer selects a Silver ticket, but not allow the optional item to be purchased with other tickets?

    3. I also have an optional item that may be purchased by a buyer of any category ticket, but only have a limited quantity of the item. Will EE let me specify the quantity of this extra item, and restrict sales to the number of the item available?

    4. My Gold tickets are reserved seats, but the rest of the tickets are unreserved seats. Is there a way that purchasers of Gold tickets can select their exact seats, yet purchasers of other tickets will not have that option, since their seats are unreserved.

    Thank you!!

    Hi,

    1) The Earlybird feature discounts all tickets in the event, it cannot be used specifically for one ticket type. It is a percentage or fixed amount discount.

    2) We have an addon that can allow you to modify the tickets prices, via questions, but none for a specific ticket only.

    3) We do not have that feature currently, but we are looking to include it in future versions.

    4) Unfortunately this isnt possible.

All that being said, 1-3 are possible if you have each ticket type as a separate event and use Multiple Event Registration to allow users to add those “tickets” (events) to cart.

It may be necessary to do some template modifications, depending on how many events you have/how you want the events to be shown.

      Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply!!! I had a few follow-up questions.

I would prefer that all the tickets be part of the same event shopping cart…so for example, it would be easy for a buyer to select and purchase 2 Bronze and 1 Student ticket all as part of the same transaction.

      1. With regard to Earlybird pricing, can I manually update the pricing of the tickets on the Earlybird Cutoff Date? So if I have a Gold ticket selling for $100 as an Earlybird Price, can I modify the price manually to $125 for all future purchases after the EarlyBird cutoff?

      2. I don’t really want to modify the ticket price, I want to include an extra line item. For example, a Gold ticket would include a printed Program. A Silver ticket would not include a printed Program, but the buyer could include it at an extra cost, so there would be a check box for Silver tickets if they want to also buy the printed Program. If this is not possible, perhaps I should list 2 types of Silver Tickets at different prices…one with printed Program, and one without printed Program??

      3. Regarding the extra item for purchase, when would this feature be available? We are offering a limited number of autographed books at the event, which are available to anyone who buys a ticket. Any other suggestions as to how to handle ordering an autographed book with limited quantities?

      4. Is there any workaround for the unreserved seat categories? ie. Assigning to a seat labeled “General” ?

      Thank you!

“I would prefer that all the tickets be part of the same event shopping cart”

Even though they would be separate events they could all be added to one shopping cart. By default they are shown as separate events, but you could create a custom page/template to show them as a single entity (will require some html/php knowledge) and then the user clicks an add to cart link for each one they want. In the cart itself they would select quantities.

      1) The early bird discount will stop giving a discount after the cutoff period, if you wanted to modify the actual ticket price, then yes that can always be done at any time.

      2) I think the latter option would be the best, two ticket prices one included one excluding the Program.

      3) We dont know when it will be added, it has a developer ticket raised for it, but I would say it will not be before 4.1 at the earliest.

      4) Well one way would be to block them off on the seating chart as reserved so no one can access them, and have a question in the registration form asking the gold member to type in the seat number they want, but I can foresee it becoming a fairly manual process, as you will need to check every attendee for those details.

It also wouldnt stop other people registering and adding something there, perhaps in error. Again I would think that perhaps having them as separeate events would help here as that way you can have a seating chart solely for the reserved seats.

If you are running a lot of events per year then having the ticket options here as separate events may be unwieldy, but i hinestly cant think of a better option currently. If you are running just one or two then it will be more manageable.

        Hi Dean,

        This is helpful.

For the suggestion to have multiple events that are displayed as a separate entity with a single shopping cart, do you have an example of how one might do this? I’m not an expert php developer…but if there is an example, I might be able to work from that.

It sounds like if I go down this path, then I can set the Gold tickets to select reserved seating, but then have unreserved seating for the other ticket categories….is this correct?

For Item 3, I’m thinking that could just be a separate ticket that gets generated for the autographed book…and the buyer will present their book ticket as they pick up their book.

One additional question…this is a single large event ( ~800 attendees) for a non-profit organization. Does Event Espresso have non-profit licensing rates available?

        Thanks!

        Hi,

No problem, Event Espresso can be very flexible but sometimes the default way of doing things doesnt meet everyones needs. So some thinking outside the box and even custom code can get things done.

If it was me, and especially as its a single event, I would probably use the Custom Files addon, to get hold of a custom shortcode called ESPRESSO_TABLE which outputs events as a table.

I would create a normal Page and add the content and then add this shortcode, that way people can just select which tickets the y want before going to the cart.

However these are designed to be used as base so will require customising to meet your needs.

If you didnt want to go down that route, you could use the EVENT_LIST shortcode which displays the events in the standard way but allows more flexibility through additional arguments (categories, etc) and use css or modify the template to manipulate it to make it look like they are together rather than separate events.

Seating wise, well you could have two seating charts, one denoting the general seats and available to any event, and one for the Gold tickets just for them. Problem is and sorry I didnt mention this earlier, is that the Seating Chart addon doesnt function with Multiple Event Registration so the whole idea kind of breaks down due to that.

Item 3, yes a separate ticket would be the best idea for that.

Discount wise we offer a flat, $25 discount for non profits, regardless of licence type.
