Is it possible to add an option to choose whether or not we want to have Mailchimp send a double optin email? I spoke with Mailchimp about it and they say that this is something that that EE would need to do.

An example would be Wufoo which integrates with Mailchimp as well. When you create a form with Wufoo there is an option to select whether or not you want the person to receive an email to confirm or whether you’d just like them to automatically be added to the list in Mailchimp.

I’m planning on purchasing 100 to 200 EE licenses for my clients that I am working with but this would be crucial for us. Anybody’s quick response would be very much appreciated.

Who from MailChimp told you that this is an Event Espresso setting? According to their documentation that is their control http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/can-i-shut-off-the-e-mail-that-asks-people-for-confirmation-that-they-want-/

Also, we are only connecting to their api and adding the contacts to the lists, not controlling how the lists are managed.

Wufoo is a form builder, not an email service so they are different things. There are Email Service Providers that don’t require double-opt-in but MailChimp is not one of them. Send us a specific email using our contact form if you need to talk about integration with another service.

Hey Garth,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I recorded a short video in response to your response. Thought that would be easier to explain myself. =)

Here’s the link to the video. http://screencast.com/t/R6j5sYKwD

Look forward to hearing back. Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the video, those are way better than just text.

We’ll have to have a developer look into this and add it as an option. What is your timeline or when do you need this done by?

Was just looking into this really quick. If you wanted to hack it until we have a chance to add the option field. You can edit the MCAPI.class.php file at line #1567 of the Mailchimp addon. Just change the $double_optin variable to false. Screenshot: http://www.screencast.com/t/w5kHZ9Hc6

Hope that helps.

Chris, did that work?

It worked for me.

I’m assuming if I want to continue with the hack to add more fields into Mailchimp, I can do that from this same place?

I want to add params for Event Title, Start Date and Start Time. Any help you can give me to steer me in the right direction?

@kromero
We haven’t tested adding parameters to MailChimp and actually that plugin was originally developed by a third-party team. That said, MailChimp has a fairly open API with a lot of documentation, so it may be possible to add those parameters. http://apidocs.mailchimp.com/

We’d definitely be interested in seeing anything you come up with!
