Hi,

I have copied the files to uploads/espresso/templates per documentation instructions but when I change the files (like sytlesheets) it does not have an affect on the site.

is there anything else I need to do to make it search there first?

thanks

p.s.
I am encountering a multitude of issues with ee. should I post each one in a separate topic?

I typically recommend making the stylesheet changes in a child theme of the current WordPress theme. This keeps the style changes with the theme and keeps the /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates directory clean.

Before posting more topics, try searching the forums, try checking the troubleshooting guide, and make sure you have the latest version of Event Espresso installed and the add-ons. It’s also a good idea to rule out plugin or theme conflicts.

so i do not understand the answer to my question. I do not have a child theme and rather not create one.
and I have ruled out plugins as turning all of them off is the first thing I do when there are problems.
so again, did I miss a step or is it just another qwirk?

as for posting topics. I have been at it for days, so I assure you I am not posting anything before searching the entire site, and I feel i know the documentation by heart by now. (and yes I have the latest version)

If you’d rather not create a child theme, I would recommend installing a plugin like the my custom CSS plugin. This will let you make CSS changes right in the WP dashboard without having to edit plugin files.

This might solve styling css but I can’t customize the php file.

I thought that if I upload files to the folder mentioned here that ee would recognize it and use that instead of the original. but it doesn’t seem to work .
It seems to recognize that the file is there, in the Template Settings page it says “event_list_display.php – Moved ” but on the front end I don’t see the changes I made take effect.

event_list_display.php needs to be moved with event_list.php since these two templates work together to display the event list. The other templates that need to be moved in pairs are listed in the above linked documentation.
