I’d like to list events in a widget with just the titles, in ascending order with next upcoming event first and have the titles link to the event page. I’d also like the ability to choose the number of events displayed in the widget.

I tried using [EVENT_LIST category_identifier=your_category_identifier] but it lists too much info. I aslo can’t restrict the number of events listed when using the shortcodes (even if I include limit=1).

Have you tried using the Event Espresso upcoming events widget?

Only thing I would suggest is to allow an option to have a link to view all events.

You can add a link to a page with all events the widget.php template. Add it right before the “After widget” code.
