On the calendar event date and time is in gray and not visible in the calendar. How do I change the text color in this area.

Hi,

It looks like the theme is over riding the colour scheme.

You can over ride it yourself by adding the following to your themes style.css file or a plugin such as My Custom CSS

.time-display-block { color: yellow; }

Obviously you can change the colour yellow to another word colour (red, blue, etc) or use hex codes (#ffffff) – http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp
