I already love EE. I have a client who would love you too if there’s a way to manage manual check-ins without an iPad. This will be a fresh WP install on 3.6 with all updated everything. I’m recommending Tickets & WP User Integration add-ons, since the attendees will all be organization members. Since the age and tech-savviness of the members varies greatly, we need a way to check people in by name as an alterantive to scanning the QR code. Nice to have: pulling someone up to check in pulls up their stored user information – including profile photo/gravatar. User info will be captured by Gravity Forms & managed by User Profiles Made Easy.

Hi Lisa,

Firstly, thanks for the love! We appreciate it a lot.

Regarding your query, it can be done via iPhone and Android phones as well but perhaps is a little long winded, you would need to search for the person by name and then tap that person.

Or were you thinking of something on a laptop/desktop?

Yay for Android check-in! Yes, they’re actually looking for laptop check-in by name or id#. If that’s doable, we’re good to go. They can always have the member profiles list in another browser window for member identification with photo.

Right, well there is nothing in place currently that will do that. I submitted a prototype shortcode/function to the developers with a laptop checkin system, but it hasn’t been looked at yet and to be honest will probably need a more seasoned developer than I to work on it.

It is on Github but note it isn’t supported or in fact endorsed by Event Espresso https://github.com/Apina/ee-checkin

In short, there isn’t anything formal yet to check in via laptop.

Hi Lisa,

While you can’t scan tickets from a laptop, you can still search for the attendees’ names and mark them as attended in the Event Espresso backend.

Thanks guys! Jonathan, that will work for the client. Dean, I’m going to give your shortcode solution a whirl on my test site. :)

Great! I’m glad we could help. Note that they will still need the ticketing add-on in order to mark an attendee as “Attended” in the system.

Let us know if we can answer anymore questions. :)
