Add description and featured image in Upcoming Events widget

I’ve had a good look through the forums for a way to add a featured image and description to the Upcoming Events widget, but haven’t had any success. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hi Alex,

That would involve some custom development and the file in question would be the /templates/widget.php file.

Instead of refactoring the upcoming events widget to add features that are already available in the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode, you can add support for shortcodes in widgets in your theme’s functions.php file and place the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode in a widget.

That’s great thanks for the pointer, but as far as I can see, the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode doesn’t provide parameters for description or thumbnail. Is there a way to add them?

Hi Alex,

Featured images and descriptions are not controlled in the shortcode, but instead via the Template Settings page in the Event Espresso menu area of the dashboard.
